Sue was commissioned by the Guy's Hospital Nurses' League to create this fine bronze,
which is now placed at the entrance to Guy's Hospital London.
The Commission is to celebrate the Centenary of the founding of the Guy's Hospital
Nursing School, the chosen style is circa 1960's.
Modelled by a real Guy's nurse in a museum piece uniform; it includes the tight-waisted
bodice, frilled cap, full skirt, starched apron and lace-up shoes.
Illustrated here are the seven stages of construction.
The work was modelled in clay on a wire structure, refined and remodelled using the
real nurse as a model, until it was an exact representation.
The fabric of the uniform was copied and wrapped around the figure, the movement of
fabric as it rustles over the body and legs is held in suspension by plastifying the folds.
A cast was taken, and then that master was refined until it was ready for the final
bronze cast.
Sue was also commissioned to create a miniature replica, and these bronzes are
